Default NEED HELP SOON: Win7 Files & Settings Transfer Wiz & Office Outlook PST Mailboxes

I'll never say "never" when it comes to Outlook, but no, importing a pst
created in 2000 to a 2007 pst will not corrupt the pst, except in rare cases
where there are already problems. It might corrupt the profile - this has
reportedly happened - but in many cases, I think the profile was already in
trouble.

What is worse for profiles is a favored method of reconnecting pst a few
years ago - create a profile, get the old pst and paste it over the new pst.
To avoid problems, connect it to the profile in Control panel, Mail. Same
goes for moving psts - move the pst then point the profile to the pst before
opening outlook. Don't wait for Outlook to ask where it is.

How well will the *Win7* [Files and Settings Transfer Wizard] work
from a WinXP with Outlook 2000 to Win7 with Outlook 2007?

OL 2000 to OL2007 pst

Just curious Diane. Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2007 when files are saved
importing the
OL 2000 saved files to OL 2007 will not corrupt and will work ?

Note, my recommendation had to do with Outlook 2000 to 2007. Had the
case been that one was moving the same type of .pst file, I would do it
a different way.

I thought you were gonna defer to the MVPs. Funny how that turns into
contradicting them, when they contradict you. Your nonexistent nym
sure lets you play games, doesn't it.

Alias did this same thing with Vista, commenting on it before he had

Quite the winner, he is, it seems.

But I did. When I was working the 2003 Beta I tried importing from my OL2000 and it
became corrupted along with the profile. I am basing my answer on that .

Why ask, why not try it yourself instead of making comments that you've
not tested yourself Pete?

I have to do this all the time, even the export from Exchange, using the
utilities can be imported into O2007.

I just did Outlook 97 to Outlook 2007 yesterday.

If you didn't know this, why did you bother commenting like you were an
authority on it?

Brian and Diane

Thanks for both your inputs. But as I posted to Leythos I was basing my answer on
that posted scenario

Don't compare beta behavior to RTM - without knowing which exact beta build
its hard to say why it happened. It's just not a common occurrence and is
highly unlikely to happen. Its certainly not risky enough for me to tell
someone not to do it.

If you were to have actually done this, as we can tell that Peter has
NOT done this, you would know that Export and Import work fine and
without corruption across the different versions of outlook.

So why are there NUMEROUS posts in many Outlook groups saying that there ARE
problems when export and import is used?
And why would anyone export FROM a pst file TO a pst file? What's the point?

There are many points... I believe I went over some of them with you
previously.

Show me one post where it actually resulted in a CORRUPTED PST?

Corrupted profiles, yes... but remember, we only see the reports where it
caused problems, not the millions of times it actually worked as expected.
Done right, the profile will not corrupt.

It should never be used for back up of the entire pst or moving between the
same version of outlook (copy the pst instead and point the new profile to
the copied pst). If you need just the calendar and contacts (or a few
folders) or are changing versions or pst formats, them its fine and the
simplest method for many users. Experts can (and often do) use other methods
(like open and Move) but not all users are experts and Import meets their
KISS standard.
