OE 6.0, Windows XP, multiple users setup. When logged in as one particular
user, a new problem has arisen. New emails do not show as having been read after opening. Deleting the message results in it actually being deleted, but still showing as present in the Inbox. Change to a different folder and then return to the Inbox and the message is gone. Deleting the deleted items.dbx does not resolve this problem. Problem does not occur when logged in as a different user. I may not have explained this too well, but would apprecitae suggestions for resolving. |

While in the Inbox: View | Current View. Make sure Group Messages By
Conversation is not checked and Show all messages is. Compact your folders. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Close and reopen OE. If still no joy: Move all the messages you wish to save out of the Inbox to local folders you create. Then: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Inbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. General precautions for Outlook Express: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Bruce,
Thanks for the help. Compacting the folders took care of the problem. I'll followup on your other suggestions also for storing messages. You are probably best off by setting up a new Identity via File | Identities
as your current store seems to be messed up. Also make sure you don't have antivirus software set to scan email. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 steve "Dennis B" Dennis wrote in message ...
