Default How can I delete a thread in a newsgroup?

Some threads go on for days/months and others I have no interest in. How
can I stop them from loading everytime I read a newsgroup.?? TIA

Not very easily. Even if you delete the thread, you will still get a new
reply to a deleted thread.

You could use the Watch/Ignore option, and Sort By Watch/Ignore and any
thread you are interested in will stay at the top of the list.

Although a new reply may show up, you can delete all messages below the ones
you want.

If you want to delete every message after a certain one, click on the newest
message you want deleted. Hold Ctrl+Shift and tap the End key, then Delete.

Unless YOU are wiping the database that keeps track of the message IDs and
their content, if they had been downloaded before, then they are NOT getting
downloaded everytime you read a newsgroup. They are still there in the
database from your visit before!

You could select all messages and hit the Del key but that only deletes
THOSE messages, not any new ones (which could reference that thread so you
end up with new messages not tied to anything).

Nothing forces you to read a thread. If you don't want to read it, just go
onto the next one. It is a community FORUM where everyone gets to talk,
including you. There is no moderation here weilding some Iron Claw policy.
Messages will eventually disappear but that depends on the retention period
for the news server.

Mark the thread Ignored. That will mark any subsequent messages
to the thread being marked ignored also and will prevent their bodies
from being downloaded.

If you wish you could also create a new view (e.g. based on the
standard alternate view Hide Read and Ignored...) which just
hides Ignored messages.

You don't want to delete the thread; otherwise all information about
not wanting to be involved with it will be lost, so you would keep
seeing new messages as they arrive. In contrast with the thread
ignored and hidden, new messages would arrive but immediately
be marked Ignored and optionally hidden.
