I suspect you didn't download them and that it was an ISP issue. You can
use Edit | Find Message and then set it to start in Local Folders and
include subfolders and then search for all messages...

Check your settings under Tools | Accounts | Mail and verify the settings
are correct. If you are using gmail, then check their website for the
