Outlook file translators stuck on a default data file or not worki
I exported a file to excel successfully to clean it up, when I tried to
import it back - although it allows me to specify the excel file I want - it defaults to an old file and I get the same information every time. Neither CSV nor TAB methods work - I get the message: "a file error has occurred in the CSV/TAB translator while initiating a translator to build a field map". I repaired Microsoft office bot through the Control Panel, and through detect and repair and downloaded a conveerter file from microsoft. I just can't get why it's doing this. I'd be really grateful if someone could help - preferably without reinstalling everythiong as I don't have the SP2 disk. Thanks Charles |

I did say that I opened my old .pst file - rather than imported it. I used
the term "imported" rather loosely to explain that I had transferred the contacts from the old computer into the new one. I am aware that you are not supposed to import the .pst file and wonder why Microsoft provide such a facility, knowing it can create problems, without posting a warning of the implications if you attempt to import it. I have always used in the "File as" field - last name, first name so that the contacts listing is in family name order. This applies to contacts originated on the old computer and those recently created on the new machine. Contacts are being listed in family name order (last name) - the anomaly is in the way the contact names are being displayed in the business cards display. You posted in the wrong thread. You did not provide the information I
requested on the actual preference settings your specified for the File As... field in the new installation. Outlook 2007 does not do what you claim all by itself. It certainly doesn't do it here. You have something misconfigured. Also, examine how individual name elements are parsed on those records that do not display correctly. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "AlanHo" wrote in message . uk...
