I have a new computer (Dell 9200) that came with Office 2003 (including
Outlook 2003) installed running under XP. I've updated Office and XP. I download emails from a Network Solutions POP server into Outlook. Everything works fine EXCEPT that when I send an email and then close Outlook I get the old "Outlook has encountered an error and has to close" bit and asks if I want to send an error report (unintelligible to mere mortals) to Microsoft. This is true even if I wait a bit. I've run Repair and uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled it to no avail. May not seem like a big deal, since it crashes when I'm closing OUtlook anyway but the frequency of the event is increasing (now it's almost every time) and I've noticed it has begun happening when I've left Outlook open a while and haven't sent anything for quite awhile. Any ideas? |

Does the error message have a "Details" button? When you get an "Illegal
Operation" or "encountered a problem" message, there's usually a "Details" button or a "click here" link to see the error report. When you click the button/link, it will show a message like: XXXX caused an error in YYYY and a bunch of register nonsense or it will list the Appname XXXX and Modname YYYY. The XXXX and YYYY are important to identify the cause and solution. You can ignore the rest of the message. The Details button shows Error signature with the following information:
Appname: outlook.exe, AppVer: 11.0.8010.0 AppStamp:43d16d53 with ModName: unknown, Mod/Ver 0.0.0.0, ModStamp:00000000, FDebug: 0, Offset: 00000000 No specific error info beyond that. What can I do with this information? I don't see anything I might search a knowledge base with... "Hal Hostetler [MVP P/I]" wrote: Does the error message have a "Details" button? A new wrinkle--maybe related (ie a deterioration of the problem discussed in
this thread) or not. I download emails from a POP server hosted by Network Solutions. Outlook reports that it is download say 4 emails--but I only actually receive 2/4. The missing ones are not diverted to Junk Mail--they are just gone! Fortunately, I save copies on the POP server so I can re-retrieve them (by forwarding them to myself) but this is unacceptable. Of course Network Solutions says it's not its problem because outlook is receiving the emails. I recall having had this problem on my old computer using Outlook 2000...so maybe this is not related to this crash on closing problem.
