Default Cannot connect to exchange server from workgroup computer

Hi all,

I have an Exchange 2000 server running on a Windows 2000 server with Active
Directory. On a Windows XP PC that is connected to the domain, I can login,
configure Outlook and read mail.

However, on a PC that is not connected to the domain, I cannot connect to
the exchange server. Outlook asks for the username and password which are
never accepted. I finally have to click "Cancel" and Outlook closes. I also
had to click cancel when setting up the account, but the Mail Setup app
eventually saved the account information.

The PC is on the same LAN as the Exchange server and other connections such
as shared folders, Remote Desktop, web (including OWA) are not a problem.

On both the server and the workstation, the Rpc related registry entries are
OK.

On the server, when I go to the event viewer, there are three events for
each failed login attempt:
---------------------------
Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Account Logon
Event ID: 675
Date: 2/24/2006
Time: 3:30:17 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: ServerName
Description:
Pre-authentication failed:
User Name: UserName
User ID: DOMAIN\UserName
Service Name: krbtgt/DOMAIN
Pre-Authentication Type: 0x2
Failure Code: 0x25
Client Address: 192.168.1.42
---------------------------
Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Account Logon
Event ID: 681
Date: 2/24/2006
Time: 3:30:17 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: ServerName
Description:
The logon to account: UserName
by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
from workstation: WorkstationName
failed. The error code was: 3221225578
---------------------------
Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Logon/Logoff
Event ID: 529
Date: 2/24/2006
Time: 3:30:17 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: SERVER
Description:
Logon Failu
Reason: Unknown user name or bad password
User Name: UserName
Domain: DOMAIN
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: NtLmSsp
Authentication Package: NTLM
Workstation Name: WorkstationName
---------------------------

The username is correct. The password is correct (I can login to the domain
from a domain computer and through Outlook Web Access). But it still won't
authenticate.

Any ideas? I felt like I have read half the Internet trying to find a
solution, but I'm at a complete loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray Harris
