Default 2003 SP2: Email Account Details Lost/Not Change on Outlook Restart

If I delete or change details of an e-mail account setup [using ToolsEmail
Accounts... View of change existing e-mail account Next select account
Delete or using ToolsEmail Accounts... View of change existing e-mail

account Next select account Change and then change, say the Outgoing
main server (SMTP):, or any other detail Next Finish] the new setup works
just fine...

UNTIL...

I shut down and restart Outlook (without a reboot) or shutdown the computer
and reboot.

When Outlook restarts the orginal e-mail account settings are back to the
old settings [eg the deleted account has returned or the changed smtp address
has reverted to the previous setting] and all the changes are lost.

This is a real nuisance because my SMTP server changed some time ago and
every time I restart Outlook I have to go into the e-mail account setting to
correct them before trying to send any e-mails.

A fix for this problem will really be appreciated.

Default 2003 SP2: Email Account Details Lost/Not Change on Outlook Restart

Hi,

This issue is mainly caused by the anti-virus program installed in the
machine.
Try disabling the anti-virus program completely or atleast the email
properties and try checking in Outlook if the server information is altered.
If possible, check for the issue in Windows Safe Mode so that any anti-virus
program installed would be disabled and it would give you an idea whether
Outlook has the correct settings intact.

Thanks,

Mittu

Good call there Mittu.

It was easiest to shutdown the computer, open up again in Safe Mode, load
Outlook, check the e-mail accounts (which incidentally were correct), finish
the e-mail accounts wizard, shutdown the computer and reboot normally. Now
the e-mail accounts appear to remain correct through Outlook and computer
shutdowns and restarts.

Many thanks for solving a frustrating problem.
