Default Drag and drop link stopped working

Sorry, but I don't think "dragging/dropping" a link has ever worked by
default in any combination of OE and IE, Paul. Perhaps you installed a
third-party utility that gave you that functionality (but I've never heard
of one myself)?

seem to apply to my situation. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough in my
original post - I am able to open links from OE6 emails in IE7 when I
click
on the links. The links open in new IE7 windows sometimes and sometimes in
the exisitng tab of the IE7 window, but it rarely opens in a new tab in
the

Any chance you recently did a Repair Install of Windows for some reason,
Paul?

OE is installed and enabled by default when WinXP (and earlier) is
installed. You may have removed access to OE and then re-enabled it (via
Add/Remove Windows Components) but you didn't install it.

While you can drag & drop files, I've never heard of being able to drag &
drop links (this is a link: www.google.com), at least not without some sort
of "grab-and-drop-a-link" clipboard utility.

PS: Windows Mail is the default Mail Client in Vista, replacing OE. Are you
thinking of Windows LIVE Mail? = http://download.live.com/wlmail (Yes, the
names are very confusing.)

Assuming that OE is running in the Restricted Zone (which is the
default) go into IE Internet Options, Security, select the Restricted
Zone and make sure that drag-and-drop is set to ENABLE. It won't work
if set to Prompt.

I just tested OE6 with IE7 and it works with that setting.

Windows Mail is a Vista only application.

There is Windows Live Mail (WLM) which can be downloaded and runs on XP,
Vista and Windows 7.

By the way, the same settings (Read in Plain Text and drag-and-drop IE
Restricted Zone security setting) have the same effect in WLM as to
whether or not you can drag links to IE.

Maybe the quickest way to fix the problem will be to reinstall OE6

that hopefully will remove all the existing settings in the Windows

Another question - is Windows Mail better than OE6? If so, can I

oops Sorry about that, Paul. My bad. (But I don't think it's a wise
idea to enable Drag & Drop for Restricted Sites zone, despite the
convenience you seek, as it will apply to possibly-unsafe/risky web-pages as
well.)

[Thanks, Michael.]

Assuming that OE is running in the Restricted Zone (which is the default)
go into IE Internet Options, Security, select the Restricted Zone and make
sure that drag-and-drop is set to ENABLE. It won't work if set to Prompt.

I have not selected the Read All Message In Plain Text option. I am
trying to
drag web links from HTML emails in OE6 to the IE7 window but dragging
stopped
working. It worked all the time until just a couple of days ago.

Maybe the quickest way to fix the problem will be to reinstall OE6
because
that hopefully will remove all the existing settings in the Windows
registry
related to how OE6 works on my computer. How do I reinstall OE6?

Another question - is Windows Mail better than OE6? If so, can I install
WM
considering that I have Windows XP SP3? Where can I download WM from?

Thanks.

In Outlook Express in Windows XP SP2+ or Windows 2003 SP1, the following
features do not work when Tools, Options, Read, Read All Message In
Plain Text is selected (For a quick workaround for the current message,
press ALT+Shift+H)
- Displaying attached images at the bottom of the message window
- Visited Links changing colors (Tools, Options, Security, Block Images
.... will also prevent visited links from changing colors)
- Right click a Link and select Add to Favorites, Copy Shortcut or Save
Target As
- Dragging a Link from the message to IE or another program
=============
- Unscramble (ROT13)
- View, Text Size (however, holding down Ctrl while using mouse scroll
wheel still works)
- Print Selection to print only the highlighted part of a message
- Edit, Find, Text in this Message (the message must also be open in
its own window to use this option)
- Using Space bar to advance to the next message when the focus is in
the Preview Pane

For security reasons, the Read All Messages in Plain Text uses the
RICHED DLL rather than MSHTML DLL. RICHED has much less functionality
than MSHTML and so is less likely to have security holes.

I used to drag and drop links from OE6 messages to IE7 window to open
the
webapges. It suddenly stopped working. I checked in the IE7's Internet
Options Security Internet Zone Custom Level Security Settings
Drag
and drop or copy and paste files is enabled. It is also enabled in the
Local
Intranet zone. How do I get it back? Thanks!
