Default Inbox and local folder posts have all disappeared

Hi all,
After closing Outlook the compacting mode took over and where normally
things went okay afterwards, this time all posts in most of my local folders
( about 10 of them) simply disappeared. Maybe 2 of the folders were affected
but everything else is gone.

Compacting mode has run numerous times without any problems in the past
(though I never look forward to it) and I'm not sure why this happened now.
Can anyone offer an explanation or some guidance into how I might recover
the emails?

Sorry for the cross post if this showed up twice.

The two most common reasons for what you describe is disruption of the
compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), and bloated
folders. More on that below.

Why Mail Disappears:

About File Corruption:

Recovery tool:

DBXpress run in Disk Mode is the best chance to recover messages:

A general warning if you don't want to lose your messages in the futu

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move
your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

And backup often.
