Switched on and OE started without an Inbox, and all its sub-folders. I
havent mistakenly deleted it, and I havent compressed, its just gone! The other folders (outbox and others I have created are fine). I can only assume that it is come kind of corruption. Does anyone know a way of reinstating it. The NewFolder option under File is shaded - I cant select it. Thanks in advance Gay |

Hi Gay,
The Inbox may be damaged. To correct this move the Inbox.dbx file (and a copy of Folders.dbx) from the message store folder to a new desktop folder. Also move Inbox Subfolder.dbx files to the desktop folder. It might be possible to later import messages from the desktop folder. If there is a problem importing the messages, or if you need help with the process check back here. I would not use Inbox subfolders, but would use user created local folders. When OE starts a new Inbox will be created. It might be necessary to delete the (master indexing) file, Folders.dbx. Doing so will result in the loss of OE folder hierarchy and subscribed newsgroups. Remove this file only if necessary. This (default) file will be recreated after being renamed or deleted when OE starts. Compact OE folders on a regular basis. Don't do anything else during the compacting process. It is recommended that OE is set to work offline when compacting. Do not rely on the Inbox for long term message storage. Backup older messages or move them to a user created folder. This behavior can occur if the client mail store contains a damaged .dbx file. The damaged file is probably Inbox.dbx. To resolve this behavior, remove the damaged .dbx file: 1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer. 2. In Windows Explorer, on the Tools menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders. 3. You may need to include hidden files and folders (Windows 2000 and XP). 4. Type Inbox.dbx in the Named box, and then click Find Now. 5. Right-click the file name, and then click Rename. 6. Rename the file to Inbox.old. Note that deleting a .dbx file also deletes any e-mail messages or other data in the folder. The Store folder can be found in Tools, Options, Maintenance tab.Store Folder. The text for the path can be copied using a right-click and then entered in the Start, Run box. OK to open the Store folder. Each identity has its own Store folder. Disregard this method if Outlook Express cannot be opened. Restart Outlook Express Open the Store Folder Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each identity has its own store folder. a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store Folder. b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder. c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end. d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy. e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store folder. f.. Hi Gay,
I don't know why a new Inbox wasn't created. Are there any 3rd-party filtering apps in use. This would include virus and anti-spam message scan. See if the same problem is present in a new OE identity. Data can be transferred from the old identity if there is success with having an Inbox in the new. Hi Tim
Creating another identity worked! I created a new folder OldInbox.dbx in the new identity and renamed the old Inbox the same and overwrote the new box data with the old one. Phew! Thanks!!!
