Receiving Messages When I Open Outlook Express
Ok Robert, I finally found the pushpin and tried your idea, but it didn't
help. I truly believe its related to the Windows update I made to the computer last week. If you have any other ideas, let me know. I wish there was a way to install OE only without IE attached to it. Maybe the program just got corrupted in some way. "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote: "Frank" wrote in message .... One possibility which has not been mentioned so far is whether you use the pushpin in the Status window or not. Try toggling that and see if it makes any difference at start up? Thanks for your input, Robert. I want to try your suggestion, but I have no idea about a pushpin in the status window. I don't know how to find that. Please provide more detail. Thanks. Doubleclick on the Status bar's rightmost pane. Click on Details (if it's not already Details.) Look at the bottom right of the expanded dialog. If the button's icon looks like a pushpin on its side click it. Etc. Good luck Robert --- |

You said it worked until you downloaded new updates. Did you try what I
suggested? Remove the updates and see if it is back the way it was. If it is, download the updates again with your anti-virus OFF. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Frank" wrote in message ... Receiving Messages When I Open Outlook Express
Bruce,
I was afraid to do that because I knew I had to do a system restore. I have had good and bad luck in the past with System Restores. Some times it works fine and takes me back to the right timeframe without a problem - other times, it causes issues when I restart like screws up my virus scanner and then I need to reistall the virus scanner, etc. I guess we're out of ideas and I need to restore. Any advice on how to amke sure the restore is clean? Also, if it does work, where do I go to gett he files back that I updated last week. I misunderstood your second post and thought you did do a System Restore.
Never the less, you can remove the updates in the Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. If you are not sure which ones, check the history at Windows Updates. No System Restore is needed. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Frank" wrote in message news Bruce, I was afraid to do that because I knew I had to do a system restore. Bruce,
I just tried going into Add/Remove Programs and I see nothing in there that looks like Windows Updates. I have XP Pro. I know on my other computer with WIN 2000, I do see the updates, but not on this one. Even if they were there, I'm not sure I'd know how to recognize them. Please provide more instruction or other alternatives as possible. Thanks. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: I misunderstood your second post and thought you did do a System Restore. Bruce. Thanks. I did whatyu said and found the update. It was a cumulative
update for Outlook Express that I installed on 1/5/06. I Removed the update and yep ! you guesed it - the issue I was experiencing was fixed! The "send/Receive" box is back when I first get into OE. Mission accomplished. Now - I am reluctant to reinstall that update.. I know you said disable my MaCaffee and then try, but do you think I should even bother? Do you know what update that was? I should have written it down for you. Should I do anything else at all? "Bruce Hagen" wrote: In Add/Remove, there is a box you need to check at the top of the page.
