I use OUtlook express 6 for email and Internet explorer 7 for surfing the
web. SO far no suggestions have worked. I've tried using notepad, but my
version does not allow me to specify saving to an html file. I'm not very
computer savvy when it comes to web stuff, but it seems that I don't have

any
software to work with html.

Default HTML Signature with Picture Logo

the box with the X, means the graphic is not where the htm file is expecting
it to be, so only a place holder is inserted
edit the html signature and either

move the image to the folder specified by the img src= tag

or edit the img src= tag to point to where the image is on your pc,
which may be different on the customers pc to your original layout

if displays in the originators/senders mail but not in the receivers, ensure
that 'send pictures with messages' or whatever setting is called, is checked

Hi Charlie

I was wondering if you have figured out how to insert your email

signature?
I am a graphic designer, and I have designed a custom email signature for

a
client of mine, who now can't insert it into Outlook Express 6. I have

tried
many, many different file formats, and actually got a web designer to help

me
create both a .gif file, and a .html file - none of which would attach.

I also get the box with a red square in it.

Please write back if you work anything out that could help me too!

Goodluck to you - goodluck to me!

Cheers
Olivia.

well, i asked another designer who had done it and now it's all sorted.
sorry about not starting a new thread - thought i had.
but this is my last message!
i opened Word, wrote my email, inserted my picture graphic (my designed
signature) and saved 'as web page', which saved the document as a word html
file. i then browed and inserted this file into my signature in Outlook and
there it is. too easy.

HEY THE "RED X" issue for IE 7 users is a major concern. If a RED X is
showing up on sites you look at while using IE 7, it's because the file is
RENDERED wrongly (double fed into site) and it cannot be seen by IE 7 but can
be seen by IE 6. This is going to be an industry killer for small publishers
who depend on content and ads to make the winter incomes. This is A BIG DEAL
and IE 7 is really the problem here.

Hi Charlie,

Saving as a HTM file is not a problem.

Choose "Save As" if the file is already named
Name the file with the (htm) extension
Example File Name: Signature.htm
Before saving select "All Files" from the file type drop down list.

Even if the file is saved with the (*.txt) extension this can be changed
by
renaming the file using the (*.htm) extension.
Example File: Signature.txt
Change to: Signature.htm

Hi Charlie,

I got these instructions from Steve Cochrane some time ago. They may
help.
Sure worked for me.

"Copy this code:

HTML
BODY
IMG src="file://c:\myimages\myimage.jpg"
/BODY
/HTML

and paste it into a new Notepad window. Edit the src value to represent
the
full path to the image you saved. Then save the file and give it an htm
file extension. Then click on the file to open it and verify that the
image
is displayed (if its not, then the path to the image in the src is
incorrect
and you will need to fix it).

Then use that file in OE as your signature for HTML formatted messages
(it
will not work for plain text)."

Good Luck.

Hi Charlie,

When you SAVE it from Notepad, disregard the extension. *Make* the
extension .htm, then follow the rest of the instructions. It works. (Be
very careful to type the full path to your file very carefully.)

Good Luck.
