Default OE6 Password Problems

Please someone help.
System has been working fine until I installed MS Visual Studio 6 for my
TAFE assignment. OE straight away stop working. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled using Add/remove windows components. Manually uninstalled and
reinstalled deleting OE files from DLLcache and the registry entries included
Indentities. I have managed to get OE going again but will not accept any
POP3 mail accounts. Error always says that password incorrect even though I
can log on thru webmail. I have removed and reinstalled Office for Outlook
2000 and the same applies, simply will not accept my password. Hotmail
accounts work occassionally but take a very long time to synchronise.
OE Files shown as follows;
acctres.dll 6.00.2600.0000 (xpclient.010817-1148)

Default OE6 Password Problems

Go to Start | Run and type

SFC /scannow

and that will run system file checker.

Also disable any 3rd party antivirus or antispam software and see if that
makes any difference.

Go to File | Identities in OE and set up a new Identity and see if that
works.

Otherwise, since you can't get either Outlook or OE to access the accounts,
then it would appear to be something more system wide that is preventing
such.

You might also then check for viruses and spyware.

Default OE6 Password Problems

Thanks for your reply,
I have run SFC and it doesn't seem to do anything other than constantly ask
for the CD even though its in the drive, the progress bar creaps along but I
have to keep clicking retry. Have changed indentities, turned off all
firewall/antivirus software. Completely stumped with this. I cannot do a
complete reinstall before you suggest this as I can not afford the down time.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default OE6 Password Problems

Don't EVER connect to the Internet without a firewall. It only takes
seconds for something to infect your computer. Windows firewall is good
enough if you're turning off a third party firewall turn your Windows
firewall on.

Did sfc run to conclusion?

Then you have the CD in the wrong location that its looking for so SFC won't
help at all.

See if you can telnet to the server. See

Default OE6 Password Problems

No it keeps retrying and I gave up after an hour of clicking. The progress
bar was probably about 30% the way across..

Did sfc run to conclusion?

Thanks for your reply,
I have run SFC and it doesn't seem to do anything other than constantly
ask
for the CD even though its in the drive, the progress bar creaps along but
I
have to keep clicking retry. Have changed indentities, turned off all
firewall/antivirus software. Completely stumped with this. I cannot do a
complete reinstall before you suggest this as I can not afford the down
time.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to Start | Run and type

SFC /scannow

and that will run system file checker.

Also disable any 3rd party antivirus or antispam software and see if that
makes any difference.

Go to File | Identities in OE and set up a new Identity and see if that
works.

Otherwise, since you can't get either Outlook or OE to access the
accounts,
then it would appear to be something more system wide that is preventing
such.

You might also then check for viruses and spyware.

System has been working fine until I installed MS Visual Studio 6 for
my
TAFE assignment. OE straight away stop working. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled using Add/remove windows components. Manually uninstalled
and
reinstalled deleting OE files from DLLcache and the registry entries
included
Indentities. I have managed to get OE going again but will not accept
any
POP3 mail accounts. Error always says that password incorrect even
though
I
can log on thru webmail. I have removed and reinstalled Office for
Outlook

accounts work occassionally but take a very long time to synchronise.

Default OE6 Password Problems

How do you reinstall OE but not from files stored on the HDD without
installing IE6, surely someone, somewhere has had to do this. I have tried a
proggy called scanDBX, it will not run as the error 'The version of OE
installed is not supported by this software'. Is this somewhere you can
download OE by itself PLEASE!

Then you have the CD in the wrong location that its looking for so SFC won't

See if you can telnet to the server. See
