This is to add info to my previous post:

The computer runs XP sp2, factory installed. It has been in my system for
almost a year. I'm not sure if this is a new problem, or just now coming
to
the attention of the user.

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.

See:

Multiple browser windows open when you click on a mailto: link:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm

If MS Outlook was installed as part of MS Office and you don't use it,
uninstall it.
