Hello!
Default OE6 message encoding. I am having a new problem with OE6. Recently I have been getting replies from people telling me my messages are all scrambled, which I can see because they have the scrambled message included below their note to me. This does not, however, occur with everyone I send messages to. I don't know what is happening but in an attempt to investigate I discovered that if I double-click on a name on my contact list, visible to the left of my Preview pane, and a new message window comes up the blue bar at the top says "New Message - Unicode (UTF-7)", even though I have the default set (supposedly) at "Western European (ISO)" or sometimes "Western European (Windows)". I did a test email to myself on another email address I have on Yahoo allowing the "Unicode (UTF-7)" encoding and when I went to check the message it too was scrambled! If I begin a new message some other way it seems OK. No matter what I do, however, I cannot get OE6 now to start a new message with the normal encoding if I do it by clicking on one of my contacts! Does anyone know what could be going on here? Thanks, -- DWK Simi Valley, CA USA |

Start a new message from a contact so that you see the UTF-7 again. Then in the compose window, point to Encoding on the Format menu, then select the proper encoding. OE *should* remember that for the future. Also be sure you are sending your message with MIME. Click Options on the Tools menu, then click the Send tab. At the bottom are 4 buttons for mail text, mail html, news text, and news html. Check that mail/text and news/text are using MIME/none. Mail/html and news/html should be set to use MIME/Quoted Printable. -- Tom Koch, OE MVP http://tomsterdam.com http://insideoe.com http://iusevista.com Awareness is free. |

Hi Tom:
Thank you for your response however when I tried that OE6 still used its default encoding the next time. I did however discover another thing that did work. I went to Tools, Options, Read tab then selected Fonts and discovered there that it was somehow set to UTF-7. I changed that to European (Windows) and selected "Set As Default" and the problem went away! Thought I should pass that along. Thanks again, DWK Simi Valley, CA, USA "Tom Koch" wrote in message ...
