Default error message "could not save item"

Suddenly I can't save or change appointments in my calendar (Outlook 2003). I
get the error message "could not save item". On the left pane under My
Calendars, the first box "Calendar" (1) is checked. I don't know what the (1)
refers to. Something seems stuck. I've had no problems until lately. Can
anyone help?

Many thanks.

If you reboot your PC, does it help?

The (1) means that there is one unread item in your Calendar. Do you share
your calendar?

I don't share my calendar, and this problem continues even if I reboot. I
can't find the unread item-how would I find this?

Thanks for your help, Brian.

Problem solved! (I think). Brian, your suggetion to reboot made me realize
that I've only put my computer into hibernation, and not shut it all the way
off. So I shut it down, and after opening up Outlook, was able to save
something to the Calendar. I still have that mystery unread item marked and
don't know how to clear it, but I can live with that!

Thanks for your help.

You could display your calendar in a table view and it should be evident
because it should be highlighted. You should also be able to right-click
the Calendar folder and choose "Mark All as Read".

Brian told you how to clear it - if you don't care to know what is marked
unread, right click on the folder name and choose mark all as read.
Otherwise, use advanced find or a table view to look for it.

Rather, I should have said "in bold", not "highlighted".
