Brian told you how to clear it - if you don't care to know what is marked
unread, right click on the folder name and choose mark all as read.
Otherwise, use advanced find or a table view to look for it.

Problem solved! (I think). Brian, your suggetion to reboot made me realize
that I've only put my computer into hibernation, and not shut it all the
way
off. So I shut it down, and after opening up Outlook, was able to save
something to the Calendar. I still have that mystery unread item marked
and
don't know how to clear it, but I can live with that!

Thanks for your help.

Suddenly I can't save or change appointments in my calendar (Outlook
2003). I get the error message "could not save item". On the left
pane under My Calendars, the first box "Calendar" (1) is checked. I
don't know what the (1) refers to. Something seems stuck. I've had no
problems until lately. Can anyone help?

If you reboot your PC, does it help?

The (1) means that there is one unread item in your Calendar. Do you
share
your calendar?
