I have what may be a similar problem: While using OL 2002, the system
stalled. after Closing and then Opeing the program, the Auto Complete no longer works. Will this work-around solve the problem? "Russ Valentine" wrote: This is from the developers of the Owtlook utility: You can quickly and easily create a new NK2 (autocomplete file) using the following work-around: In MS Outlook, go to tools, options, mail setup, send/receive. Uncheck the "Send immediately when connected box". Next, press the Send/Receive Button (in Options) and uncheck "Schedule an automatic send/receive". Next disconnect your computer from the internet by removing your network and/or telephone connection. Open a new e-mail, press the bcc or to or cc button, select the contact folder you would like to bring into your NK2 (autocomplete) file. Select all names by highlighting first and last contact and then add them by pressing the OK button at the bottom. With your computer disconnected, press the send button. This will automatically populate your autocomplete file with all of the selected e-mail addresses. Next, go to your Outbox and delete the e-mail(s) that you just created. Go back into your Tools, Options, Mail Setup, Send/Receive and change your options back to the original settings. Remember to put your mail settings back and plug in your removed cables. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "JMcC" wrote in message ... did the search on the local harddrives but it came up with just the current "reset" one - also did the same search in the back up folder and it comes up with 0 (meaning I think that the .NK2 file isn't backed up as part of the Outlook folder backup which is just the .pst file).....so it looks like its been overwritten. How could I recreate it without the utility as you suggest? Thanks for your help "Russ Valentine" wrote: Hard to say. NK2 files are pretty sturdy, but you definitely did a bad thing to it (something one I've never seen before). Search for NK2 files and see if you have any that match the size of the one you had before it became corrupted. Did it contain a large number of entries that are not in your Contacts? If not, it won't be difficult to recreate it. You can even recreate it without the utility. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "JMcC" wrote in message ... I selected the file from the docs and settings\...\outlook folder and it asked what programme I wanted to use to open it, so I selected Outlook - I did try Notepad and Excel but it was quite garbled although I could see the email addresses in amongst the noise. That was when it said there had been a prob with the .FAV file and then I think it basically rebuilt those two folders, thereby deleting the info in them. Q: has the info been permanently lost or could I recover it using the DCS software you recommended? Thanks for your help "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: How did you try to open this NK2 file and what exactly happened when you tried? You can only open and examine NK2 files with third party software. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "JMcC" wrote in message ... I wanted to see what information I had in my .NK2 file (because I wanted to copy it to a new terminal) so I tried to open it using Outlook - the programme then said there had been a problem with the .FAV file and was going to correct it. When I next tried to create an email, the autocache didn't work - I also checked on the file size of the .NK2 file which had dropped from 600KB to 26KB - not good. I have backups of my email data (.pst file) - is there a way of recovering the autocomplete info? Thanks |
