Default Search Contacts for Fax Number

When has Instant Search not been broken? I know the drills. Index has been
recreated. Index is up to date.
I'm staying with Advanced Find until they find the cure for Instant Find's
schizophrenia. That's why I posted the answer I did.

There must be something broken on your side then. It works here in various
configurations of Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 from Windows XP to Windows
7.

Does a Birthday search work correctly for you on your Contacts? For
instance, to return all contacts who were born in 1981 type;
birthday:1981

Still fails even with the query defined precisely to match the field.

Correct, because you didn't specify a query then ;-)

If I just type in businessfax my hits are restricted to 0.

It works for me but it is quite picky in the notation. It has to be
exactly as entered in Outlook and if it contains spaces, you'll have
to put it between quotes. So for a specific Dutch fax number that I
have, I have to type;
businessfax:"+31 123456789"

If I do that, I get the exact match for that person. If I leave out
the businessfax: part, I don't get any results at all so by default
Instant Search does not include that field when searching.

Instant Search doesn't work here, even with that format.

You can search fax numbers as well with Instant Search. In the
Instant Search field type;
businessfax:0123456789
(of course replace the number with the real fax number)

But you're correct; it won't help you if they are contained in a DL.

Which of Outlook's search functions did you try? You can't use
Instant Search for fax fields. Try Advanced Find...
All bets are off with a DL, however. I can't think of an idea worse
than creating a large DL of fax numbers. Someone didn't know how
Outlook works.

Does anyone know how to or can you search Outlook 2007 for an
individual fax
number? I have a massive fax distrobution list that was built by
someone else
and I need to remove several of the fax numbers.

thanks,

jf
