I recently upgraded from Outlook 2003 on XP to 2007 on Vista. In 2003, to
update the members of a distribution list, I would change the main contact card info, then go into the distribution list and click "Update" (or something like that). I have found that this does not work in 2007. I'll click "Update" but the address I just updated doesn't change. I've tried highlighting the name whose contact card I just changed and clicking "update" but it still doesn't. I tried saving the list and then reloading the list, but no change. I've had to delete the old name and then re-add the person's new contact card to the list, but if there's a button that says "update" I shouldn't have to do this, right? Why is this not working? Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug that never got worked out in Outlook 2007? Thanks. Jo. |

"Update Now" has never worked with any DL that you have migrated from its
original folder. In fact "Update Now" has almost never worked in any scenario. Well known. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Jo" wrote in message ... Hmmm... But it worked fine in 2003. I wonder what magic spell I accidentally
unleashed to make it work? The Contact folder it's in is a new one I created fresh in my new 2007 Outllook, although the contact "cards" themselves were copied over from the old folder in the old 2003 pst file. Would that make a difference? Please don't tell me I have to create all new contact cards for my mailing list for this to work... Or maybe the update has never worked for anyone in 2007? You'd think after 2 years MS would have noticed this and fixed it by now... Jo. It has nothing to do with Outlook 2007. It has everything to do with DL's.
They have never worked as they should. They are a deprecated feature that will not be fixed. Most savvy users abandoned them long ago in favor of the options that do work for grouping Contacts, such as Categories. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Jo" wrote in message ... Hmmm... What type of email account do you have configured? At most, you may need to
rebuild the DL - if you copied the DL and/or the contacts the links between the DL and contacts may be broken. Double clicking the name in the DL may fix the link - it sometimes works for me when Update won't complain that it can't find the contact. If you get the name & address dialog instead of a contact, the link to the contact was broken. Moving DL and contacts preserve the links better than copying but we don't generally recommend using DLs, especially if the members change often. "Dynamic DLs" are easier to maintain in this situation - http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2003/20030730.htm. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com.
