Default Building Category from Distribution List

I moved to Outlook 2007 from OE and have all my mailing lists set up as
distribution lists. Is there a way to do a 'selection' of an entire dl and
code it as a category instead of having to do the names individually. I have
tried it just by selecting the group, then clicking the category I want from
the drop-down box, but it didn't work. Any help would be great!
