Default area code

How do I stop the area code from showing up in the phone numbers of my
contacts. When I type in a new contact, even if I don't put in the area
code, my area code shows up. I only want the area code to be there if I put
it in.

I use Microsoft Active sync to sync my contacts to my cell phone. The sync
transfers the area code with the phone number and I don't want it there.

I went to dialing properties and dialing rules but it won't let me delete my
home location. I guess you have to have it there. So does anyone know how
to delete the area code in my contacts phone number?? Mary
