How do I stop the area code from showing up in the phone numbers of my
contacts. When I type in a new contact, even if I don't put in the area code, my area code shows up. I only want the area code to be there if I put it in. I use Microsoft Active sync to sync my contacts to my cell phone. The sync transfers the area code with the phone number and I don't want it there. I went to dialing properties and dialing rules but it won't let me delete my home location. I guess you have to have it there. So does anyone know how to delete the area code in my contacts phone number?? Mary |

Outlook uses your default dialing location. You cannot change that.
There is no need to. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Mary" wrote in message ... How do I stop the area code from showing up in the phone numbers of my contacts. There is no need too ?
Since when was it up to you how numbers appear in mobile phones. Area codes are not required for Mobile Phone numbers, especially in Australia where we use the same area code for all mobiles. Can you be a bit more helpful and provide a solution to stop this behaviour? "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Outlook uses your default dialing location. You cannot change that. Get real. Why in the world would you blame me for Outlook's behavior? State
your case and defend it. Explain why Outlook should provide a different phone number format for every user instead of a standard format for everyone, when the latter is clearly the only way Outlook can serve its purpose as a data base. It is up to you and your configuration of dialing rules to meet your local conditions for dialing. How could it be any other way? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "DX`" wrote in message ... Ok, you have obviously taken me the wrong way.
At no time did i blame you for outlooks behaviour I wasnt happy with your reply of "There is no need to". Making me believe that Outlooks behaviour is the be-all and end-all of number format conventions and if i dont like it, lump it. If i want numbers in my phone appearing a certain way i should be able to make it work. All i want is a solution (or even a workaround) to turn OFF the automatic numbering format change. Basiclly operating like a free text field. Which is what i understood from Mary's post is what she would also like. |

You can't turn it off and while outlook supports 'free text fields' they
will not sync with phones. The fields were designed back in the old days when computers were hooked to phone lines and people wanted to dial from the computer - the dialer knows to skip the area code when it dials. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Author, Teach Yourself Outlook 2003 in 24 Hours Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Subscribe to Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: ** Please include your Outlook version, Account type, and Windows Version when requesting assistance ** "DX`" wrote in message ...
