Default After sync, address book not functioning

I have synced my outlook with my iphone. All of my contacts are still there,
however when I click on TO to select addresses using the address book, there
are no contacts listed. I do have the check box allowing contacts to be an
address book checked. I cannot figure out what else I need to do. Help!
Very frustrating.

Are the email addresses still in the contact records? If you edit one of the
contacts to add/edit the email address, does it show up in the address book?

If I do add a new contact, it does show up. If I cut an e-mail address and
then paste the same email address back and save, it does show up. Do I need
to do that for all 276 records?
What about next time I sync, will this happen again? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Anyone who uses sync backs up their data. Did you?
Does all the email addresses in your Contacts Folder appear as it should?
Are those addresses reconciled (underlined)? If you open and save a Contact
that no longer appears in the address book view, will it then appear?
