Default How do you filter a mail merge by category?

I have set up my contacts with specific categories so they can be easily
identified and filtered for various actions. Primarily I want to send a mail
merge to my category group so the email they receive is personalized. This is
also helpful so when I create a new contact and enter a category, that new
contact is automatically a part of the group/category that should be
receiving a specific mass email.
