How can I copy addresses from one contact list to another contact without
retyping all the information? Both would be in the same version of Outlook 2003, Windows XP, with all available updates. |

Do you want to copy the whole contact, or just addresses from it?
To copy the whole contact, drag it from the original list to the new one, hold down Ctrl, and then release. If you don't hold down Ctrl you'll move it rather than copying it. To copy just an address or other info, highlight it, press Ctrl+C (to copy), place the curser where you want it in the new contact, then press Ctrl+V (to paste). In my Outlook Address book I have 4 different contact lists. I would like to
merge (or move) them into one book. I have read most questions and answers in this category but can't seem to follow the directions. When it says to copy and paste it doesn't make sense to me. If I copy a name and then open one of the other lists nothing will paste. Can someone help me? -- Janie "Mark R Penn" wrote: Do you want to copy the whole contact, or just addresses from it? Stop. "Contact Lists" in the Outlook Address Book view are virtual lists
only. They do not exist and they contain no data. They are simply views of the electronic addresses in your Contacts Folders. If you have multiple lists in your address book view, it simply reflects the fact that the Outlook address book view is a dysfunctional utility that has never worked correctly and that Microsoft can't fix. Outdated references to Contact folders are retained even when those folders no longer exist. It does not mean you have anything to consolidate. Do some more research. Examine your folder hierarchy in Outlook using Folder List view (ignore the address book view and never try to manipulate data in that view). Do you really have more than one Contacts Folder? If not, then you have nothing to consolidate. You simply need to remove the outdated references from your address book view. Simple to do. Can't tell you how, since you decided not to post your Outlook version. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Janie" wrote in message ... In my Outlook Address book I have 4 different contact lists. Russ Valentine,
Since you do this as a profession I'm sure you get tired of hearing from those of us who are not intellectual giants when it comes to Outlook. That does not mean that you need to be rude. How about suggesting an Outlook book or reference manual that I might understand because I have only a smattering idea of what you are talking about. -- Janie "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Stop. No, none of the people who post here do this as a profession. We are all
volunteers who value our time and wish that people who post here realize that we are not looking over your shoulder when you post a problem. We are neither mindreaders or owners of a crystal ball. Using unclear terms does nothing to help us help you. Each of us (MVPs) have a limited amount of time to post here as we have real lives away from computers (most of us). Asking people to post clear descriptions of issues using Outlook terms is not asking too much. Eventually, we just skip posts that make no sense. Then no one wins. By the way, what have you brought to this discussion? -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. ALWAYS post your Outlook version. I want to have one contact list in my address book. Instead of Collected
Contacts, Contacts & Janie's Data Base I want just one and don't care what it says. I can clean up the duplicates later. Are you saying that I can highlight one of the lists, like: Collected Contacts, then hold down control and drag Collected Contacts to the word Contacts and all the names & info. will be moved to Contacts? -- Janie "Janie" wrote: In my Outlook Address book I have 4 different contact lists. Not at all. For goodness sake, read what I posted. Reply with what you don't
understand and explain what is unclear to you. My post was very detailed and clear. It bears no resemblance to your reply. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Janie" wrote in message ...
