Default Selecting Members for a Distribution List

Suddenly, when I open a distribution list and click on Select member, it
freezes and nothing works until I press Esc button or go to Ctrl Alt Delete
and end task. It happens with every distribution list that I open to add a
member. It is not corrected by Detect and repair, it is not corrected by
restart the PC or turn it off and on again after a while. Help!!! I have
Windows XP Professional, and Office 2003. Thanks

If you read this group you will see countless references to the fact that
DL's are very fragile and highly unreliable. Few of us ever use them for
that reason.
Do you backup your data?

Default Selecting Members for a Distribution List

I've used distribution lists for years without problems to communicate with
my patients. First problem I encounter. I do back up my data. Each function
and item in contacts works perfectly now, but Select member if I click
freezes it even on a new list I try to build. Remove, open, forward,
everything else works fine. Thanks

Your reply is unclear. Do you have a new question? Are you saying you
restored from backup? What steps did you take before your DL's stopped
working?

Default Selecting Members for a Distribution List

No, I did not restore from backup. Before my DL's stopped working I had made
a new distribution list, splitting a previous large DL into a new one plus
the one with reduced number of members. Maybe one step was not concluded and
the problem selfcorrected after I send this morning a message to the DL's
involved. THANKS

Aha. I see. Yes, that is a recipe for corrupting a DL. One thing you might
try next time is to avoid trying to manipulate a DL within the same folder
in which it was originally created. That seems to confuse Outlook and
disrupts the connections between the DL members and the underlying Contacts.
Try copying it to another folder and making your changes there, then rename
it and copy it back to your original folder.
