Our company recently converted to Outlook (2003 SP2) as our mail client. All
of our 'personal' contacts were converted. I have a number of entries in my personal contacts address book that are incorrect but I cannot fix or delete them. When I try, I get the following message: "The properties dialog box could not be displayed. An invalid ENTRYID was passed in." Is there a way to fix these without rebuilding the entire book? |

In our old client (Novell) we could have a 'frequent contacts' list as we can in Outlook. This is the list that was converted. That still doesn't tell us much What was it converted from? How? Where does it exist now -- as an Outlook contacts folder?

Sue, Brian,
I thought I had answered the questions but.... Our old client was Novell. New is Outlook. In both there are 'personal contacts' regardless of what they are called in each (in Outlook it is a specifically named 'Address Book'). The error appears when I try to add or correct info in some of the Outlook entries. The majority of them work okay. But there are some that I cannot access (or delete). When I try I get the error message. I can recreate and replace the problem entries, but that would still leave the bad ones because they won't delete. I can recreate the entire address book and then delete the book with the bad entries, but I was trying to avoid that scenario. Thanks again. Outlook doesn't have any ability to import from a Novell address list that I can remember. That's why we keep asking you what the source was -- what source among those listed in Outlooks' File | Import and Export dialog. Or to ask the question another way, what steps did you follow to make the data available to Outlook?

It takes a while. Now I understand the question but, don't know if I have the answer. Prior to our conversion to Outlook, we (meaning about 300 people in our facility and about 1000 in total) were advised to 'save' our frequent contacts list in our old format 'Groupwise'. During the migration to Outlook this saved file was 'converted' to an Outlook format so that we could access the names & addresses. I'm not sure how this was accomplished. Once the conversion was completed we were required to follow a certain procedure to make the frequent contacts address book accessable. It was after this that I found the problem. Then the problem is almost certainly with the tool that performed the conversion. That would not have been Outlook, but probably a third-party tool. Unless you can track down troubleshooting information related to that tool, you may have to recreate all those contacts, or at least the ones you really need. If they're visible in the folder list address cards view, you may be able to copy and paste or at least have the info in front of your to retype.

I really appreciate your trying to help but, the answer to your last question is unknown (to me). We were told to create a new external contacts address book within Groupwise that would be converted to Outlook. I have no idea how this was accomplished. After Outlook was installed as our mail client, we were given instuctions as to how to make the exteral contacts address book accessable (basically we were told to 'add' an Outlook address book). Sorry I can't be more specific. I just followed the instructions from IT.
