Normally, if you examine the properties of a shortcut, you'll see a "Run"
drop-down that contains the choices "Normal window", "Minimized", and
"Maximized" and you can control the initial window by using that setting.
For quite some time, I've been under the impression that Outlook 2003 tends
to ignore that setting, but I just tried it again and found that it was
working. Combine that with the "Hide when Minimized" option and you can get
a fairly stealthy Outlook startup.

It doesn't ignore it as long as you don't close Outlook in a Maximized
state.
