Default moving data between computers

I just bought a new computer and have transfered files and settings from an
XP computer to a Vista computer. When I try to open Outlook it says the file
c:users\conway\appdata\locala\microsoft\outlook\ou tlook(1).pst can't be
found. What do I do?

Use the mail applet in the control panel to open/add a data file, probably
outlook.pst
Or Copy your old data file outlook(1).pst (maybe?) to the Documents folder
of Vista, then use the mail applet to add this data file

You migrate your data correctly. You apparently did not. What did you do?
You never use a transfer Wizard with Outlook. They don't work.
You create a new profile, configure your accounts, then open your previous
data file. Detailed instructions have been posted here countless times.

I used the Xp/Vista transfer cable. Apparently that was incorrect. Where can
I find the proper instructions? I assume I will need to reinstall Outlook, or
is there an easier way? Where will I find the data file on the XP system?
Thank you in advance.

No need to reinstall anything. Just create a new Outlook profile and open
the data file you backed up from your previous installation. If you created
no data backup before migrating to a new system, use the file you were using
on XP.
The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the
mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Thanks. Outlook won't open at all after this message. It redirects me to try
and browse for it, and when I click cancel (becasue I can't find anything) it
shuts down. This is why I asked if I should reload it. What do you think?
Again thanks in advance

Of course it won't open. You have a corrupt profile. I didn't tell you to
open Outlook. I told you to create a new Outlook profile and follow the
directions I posted to migrate your data to the new profile.
