Default Want to receive msgs to Inbox without activating Send/Receive tab

I set up my new Outlook 2003 application with a new email account and I'm
able to send and receive messages. However, I expected to see the new
messages to appear in the Inbox when I launched Outlook 2003. The issue is:
To see my new messages I have to select the 'Send/ Receive' tab to complete
the processing of the messages (of my email account) before the msgs appear
in the Inbox.
This seems like a common problem, and the solution should be obvious, but
has been able to excape me. Is there a setting I am missing???

While examining your Inbox, press ALT-CTRL-S and check the box labeled
"Schedule an automatic send/receive every XX minutes", selecting a value for
"XX" that's 8 or higher.
