Default Message : Unable to open default E-mail

I've loaded Office 2003 on my laptop. When I go to start out look I get a
"Outlook configurate" info box. I'm also asked to "Microsoft .NET Passport
sign-in". I do, but don't understand why since I don't have to on my desk
top. I next get the message "Unable to open your default e-mail folders".
When I click ok, I'm taken out of the program.
