PST backup utility question
Is there a limit to the number of PST files that the PST Backup
utility will work with? I have a user who has (egad) 120 PST files OPEN in Outlook at once. We have just set things up so that these PST files are on her LOCAL drive (she had been accessing them across the network), AND installed the PST Backup utility to back up these PST files to a USB hard drive hanging off her machine. But PST Backup doesn't see all her open PST files. There's not much documentation that I can find on this utility - does anyone know if there's a limit to how many PST files it can see? (for that matter, does OUTLOOK 2007 have a limit to the number of PST files it can have open at once? so i can "scare" her into consolidating/eliminating some of them?) Thanks in advance. -RAM |

PST backup utility question
I don't believe there is a limit although if there is, its over 500, the
only real limit is the practical limit of dealing with so many pst files. Count your blessings its only 120 - see http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2009/up090319.htm#4. g Rather than use the backup tool, I would use a script or batch file to copy all pst files to the backup location then start outlook - it can replace the shortcut she normally uses. It's easier than running it after closing outlook but you do risk 1 days worth of mail, but I found this was much less hassle than other methods. However, you should work on the user's storage habits - mail she actively needs should be in one pst and others should be archives only - and closed. She can open them when she needs to reference something. Outlook 2007 supports mega size pst files so going forward she should stick with one pst - maybe two, one for current stuff and one for archives. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Let's Really Fix Outlook 2010 http://forums.slipstick.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34 "RAM" wrote in message ...
