Default Rule to identify a from address

OK.
.. well thanks for your reply Brian ...

So it seems the bottom line is that I have to"manually" trigger which
folder I want these mails to go to ... !!
(i.e. via view options or a generated prompt)
It kind of defeats the reason for using a computer :-)
from my side I still cannot believe that such a simple filtering operation
cannot be fully automated in Outlook ....
I guess the solution is to find a decent email client ;-)

Perhaps I did not make this clear ... I am attmepting to filter OUTGOING
emails and I want to identify an email address (in this case
an alias on one of my configured accounts).

No you did not make yourself clear. You said, "I am using Outlook 2003
and would like to filter mails emanating from a specific address to a
folder." I interpreted that to mean you wanted to sort incoming mail by
sender to various folders.

I have indeed chosen "Start from a blank rule" - and then chosen
"Check messages after sending".
In the next dialog there is NO option to filter on my sending email
.... that's what I find a bit primitive about Outlook .... unless I
am missing something!!

Since YOU control the sending address, YOU know which folder should
contain the message when sent. You can either choose it with ViewOptions
before sending or use a script to ask you for the folder, as in the
following: http://www.outlookcode.com/d/code/setsavefolder.htm
