Just a note: I had a similar situation about 6 months ago with the same
error message. The problem I encountered came from the service
provider's email system. They had moved their POP3 email servers to new
equipment and my login (authentication) was not being processed. The
POP3 servers names had changed and I had to connect to another server to
validate! They failed to inform me ahead of time. Check with your
service provider just in case. They could also have hardware or other
authentication problems.

The only time I have had problems with email and Antivirus software was
sending messages. Mainly since AV software will change the SMTP account
name to route messages through the AV software first for detection.

I have tried disabling Norton Virus Protection and my firewall. Nothing
changes. i still keep getting this message. Please help.
