Default Outlook calendar will not save appointment start times

Hi everyone. This is a new problem that I can't seem to find a
solution to.

I'm running Outlook 2003 on a Core II Duo Lenovo laptop with Win XP
Pro. I've got Norton Antivirus and Internet Security running on the
system, and I have also scanned the system with Avast! Antivirus from
my U3 drive.

I also have a Sony Ericsson bluetooth phone, with bluetooth
syncronization to Outlook.

Here's the problem:
If you enter a new appointment into the Outlook calendar (from
calendar view) and click 'Save and Close', the appointment will *not*
appear on the calendar. If you switch to view all of your appointments
'By Category', they will all be listed, but with *no start times*.
If you enter a new appointment from the 'By Category' view, as soon as
you click off that appointment, either to enter a new one, by clicking
on another appointment, or by clicking to a different Outlook view,
the start time that you enter will *disappear*, to be replaced with a
value of "None" under the Start Time heading.

No amount of reentering and resaving will keep the start time in
place, and thus the appointment will not appear on the calendar, and
reminders will not go off, etc.

If you sync the Outlook appointments to the phone, they *WILL* come
over with start times attached, but often the entire appointment
(start time, end time, and reminder time) will be shifted one hour
earlier.
If you enter an appointment into the PHONE, and sync it over to
Outlook, it will lose it's start time and behave there just like the
other appointments.

I have not only rebooted, but I have uninstalled and reinstalled
Outlook at this point, to no effect.

One clarification:

"If you sync the Outlook appointments to the phone, they *WILL* come
over with start times attached, but often the entire appointment
(start time, end time, and reminder time) will be shifted one hour
earlier."

What I mean is that the start times that have been disappearing and
are not displayed will actually come over in sync to the phone.
So...it seems like they are being saved somewhere, maybe?
