Default Odd buttons at top of screen on ALT press

I was involved in the beta test for Office2k7, but never found this
feature, and still not sure what it is. I am pressed for time right
now, so I did a quick search on MS' site and didn't turn up anything.
Maybe later, if no one else knows what it is, I will have to do a
better search.

In Outlook2k7, if you open a NEW email, begin typing the body, and hit
the ALT key, in the top left corner of the screen, a series of button
images pop up. What are they? When I clicked one, the buttons
changed, but nothing seemed to have happened.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Dave

those are reminders for the shortcuts for those menu commands. IE, if you
press Alt and press a letter that shows up in the 'little buttons' it will
initiate the command.

Diane:
Thanks for the info. You know, in all the time I played with
Outlook 2007 during the beta, I never found that. Then again, I
generally use the traditional shortcuts and function keys.
I guess this just goes to show my fingers don't slide off the
proper keys too often. When I mentioned it to a couple other people,
they said, "Yeah, I see that all the time." They didn't have a clue,
either.

Again, thanks!
Cheers!
