Using newly upgraded Win XP and Outlook 2002, I am unable to import to my
Personal Folder a file labeled "outlook.pst" but file type Office data file. I have tried without success, using DB 287837, to convert the Office data file to an Outlook data file, but the conversion is not reflected in Win Explorer. Any suggestions? -- Chuck |

Use File | Open, open the PST file in your Outlook file list, and then select/copy in what you wish to your *real* PST file. Don't muck around with the file extensions/etc - if it's a PST file, it's your PST file. No matter what friendly name you see. |

Do NOT import, simply open the file using Outlook's File-Open-Outlook Data
File. Ensure the file is copied to the hard drive and any read-only check mark is removed from the properties page. Importing will lose data, consistently. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Thanks for swift response. I've already tried it, but tried again. The file
won't open; error message says it's not a personal folder file, but I don't know why. Anything else to try? -- Chuck "Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: Do NOT import, simply open the file using Outlook's File-Open-Outlook Data File. Thanks for the reply, though the news was grim. I'll have a look.
