Hi

I'm running sbs2000 with exchange and isa set up and up to date. Clientes
are running Outlook 2000 and some Outlook2003.

I'm having the following problem:
- Our domain is private (not registered on the internet) so users need to
have an external POP3 account to receive email from the outside.
- I'm using (or at least trying to use) MS POP3 Connector to retreive the
mail from the external POP3 mailboxes and deliver it to the internal
mailboxes.

- If I set up the user's primary SMTP address to be something like
the messages misteriously disappear after being
downloaded by the POP3 connector. The connector downloads the messages but
seems to be unbale to sleiver them to the internal mailbox.

- If I just set the primary smtp address to my internal/private domain the
messages sucessfully pass from the pop3 connector to the user mailbox.
However the users are unable to send email to external addresses because the
destination server won't recognize the domain. Also the person who receives
the email is unable to reply because the FROM address is set to my private
domain.


How can I solve this situation?
I sincerelly appreciate any help you can give me. I really have to solve
this problem quickly...

Hi Pedro,

If you're trying to set this up without running the CEICW (connect to the
internet wizard), don't. Run the wizard and input the appropriate
information. Don't select DNS for sending, select smart host and input your
ISPs SMTP server, as in smtp.external-hosting-corp.com.

is there any draeback in running the CEIW?
The system has been running for quite a while so there are losts of info and
configs in the server, ISA and Active directory.

Does CEIW reset ISA settings and/or Active directory ones??
I'm asking just to be sure....

ISA custom filters may get disabled, but they're not deleted.

There are many more advantages to running CEICW than there will ever be
disadvantages. It's the single most complex - and useful - configuration
tool on the SBS, and if it doesn't run without errors then that's a good
sign that you have made errors in your configuration attempts outside the
wizards.

One nice feature - you can run the wizard all the way to the end, and before
applying any changes, you can see (and save) a complete list of the
configurations it will make. If you don't click 'finish', they're not
applied.

CEICW comes very close to doing that. It's your first stop if you munge
things related to internet connectivity, and email. It stands for Configure
Exchange and Internet Connection (wizard). It can fix many things.
