can't find inbox data
After an improper shut down, I lost my user profile and all my old emails. Is
there a way to find and replace all of them. I found some that I had saved elsewhere, but I can't find any from the last 8 months. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Joe |

I assume you have a new OE identity now? First, enable Hidden Files and
Folders. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Now do a search for: *.dbx Do you find a folder containing your old dbx files? If you do, note the location and then open OE and import them. There are other options, not as pleasant, so post back with your results. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Joe from florida" wrote in message ... Thanks for your help.
I did as you suggested and find some but not all old emails. I'm missing the last 8 months of inbox emails. Do you have any other ideas about getting those? Thanks in advance. 1. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of
your current Identity's store (http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain). Write it down. In WinXP, Win2K and Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View (cf. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial62.html). 2. Close OE. 3. Open a Windows Explorer search window (WinKey+F) | Check the Advanced option and the 3 options directly underneath it. 4. Type INBOX.DBX in the topmost search box and hit ENTER on your keyboard. 5. Do you find a file named INBOX.DBX that is *not* located in your store folder (#1 above)? If you do, what size is it, Joe? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Joe from florida wrote: Thanks for your help. can't find inbox data
Thanks for your help.
I did not find any files that were not in storage areas. Two were 71,556kb and one was 11kb. I remember that the files were compacted at least twice over the last 8 months. Did this help any? I didn't think that I would loose data in my email files with this power shut off problem. "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: 1. ...I remember that the files were compacted at least twice
over the last 8 months. You should be manually compacting all OE folders much more frequently than that. NB: Do NOT compact them now!!! Joe, are you running WinXP (SP2 or SP3)? If not, what Windows version is it (e.g., Win2K SP4; Win98SE)? Joe from florida wrote: Thanks for your help. I did not find any files that were not in storage areas.
