Default Problem with Outlock Express backup

All my mail folders have together 8 GB.

Beside a total backup, I would like to make a backup only
from folders changed in the last 3 month,
this would be maybe less than 1 GB.

But Outlock Express changes from al *.dbx files
the last modified

This makes it impossible to make a backup only
from the dbx files changed in the last 3 month.

Any program, what makes quick a backup only
from the last some month?

Or any better email programm?

Default Problem with Outlock Express backup

In a reply to a similar question several years ago, MVP Majik, author of
OE-QuickBackup, posted the following:

Backup and archiving are two separate things that people sometimes confuse
each other with. What it sounds like you are wanting to do is archive the
old message stores for possible later retrieval. Usually archiving is a way
to store the old messages, clear them from the current setup and basically
start over with empty files. Should you have a need to restore those files,
you can simply import them into OE.

Backup is done in case you have a problem and need to restore the data as it
was.

Backing up files should be done in a way that you understand what and where
the files are, how long you want to retain them, etc.

Two different forms of backup (others may have additional plans):

1) Make a backup of the current data. (Backup1)
The next time you backup the data, put it in a separate folder.
(Backup2)
The next time you backup the data, put it in a separate folder again.
(Backup3)
The next time you backup, overwrite Backup1
The next time you backup, overwrite Backup2
The next time you backup, overwrite Backup3
The next time you backup, overwrite Backup1
The next time you backup, overwrite Backup2
The next time you backup, overwrite Backup3
&c.

You always keep the last three backups for that just in case problem.

2) Make a backup to a different folder for each backup, never overwriting
the previous.

One idea: I've got several clients doing now for backing up their messages
is to create a folder within OE and name it the month (March2004) of the
backup. They can easily copy just that one DBX file and put it on CD then
delete it from within OE. When they need it, they can easily then make a
new folder of the same name, open it to create the dbx file required to get
it in the Folders.dbx file), close OE, then copy the backed up dbx file over
the existing one (removing the read only attribute) then restarting OE.
Their messages are there waiting on them then and when they finish, all they
have to do is delete the folder in OE. They won't be adding messages to that
dbx file so it's no big deal when they delete it.

My Outlock Express folder has now 8 GB.

Making a backup of 8 GB is very time consuming.
So it's usual done only one time a month.

But beside the complete backups, I make
"changed in the last 3 month backups"

A changed in the last 3 month backup needs usual
2 minutes on my system.

Only Outlock Express can not be covered by the
last 3 month backup, because all files are marked
as changed when Outlock Express starte.

So every time I start Outlock Express,
All 8 GB are marked as changed.

The folders
inbox 2000
inbox 2001
inbox 2002
inbox 2003
inbox 2004
inbox 2005
inbox 2006
inbox 2007
inbox 2008

have as last modified date the last start of Outlock Express
sabotaging the daily "backup what changed in the last 3 month"
system

Your current message store (folder) is 8GB??
http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain

What size is the file INBOX.DBX in your current message store? How many
messages are in your current Inbox folder?

OE was never designed to have a message store that even approaches 2 GB. In
fact, most users start encountering problems when their store approaches
1GB. If you message store is really 8GB, I'm surprised that OE even opens!

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:

Your current message store (folder) is 8GB??
http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain

What size is the file INBOX.DBX in your current message store? How many
messages are in your current Inbox folder?

Each year, the content of the inbox folder is moved to a folder named
inbox-NNNN
NNNN = year.

There are now 373 *.dbx files in the Outlock Express folder
All this files together have 6,1 GB

The largest of all is

2008 Inbox.dbx with 500 MB

Since we have only February, the current

inbox.dbx is only 53 MB

OE was never designed to have a message store that even approaches 2 GB.

But where should I store my old emails?

Is there a solution for all my old emails?

In fact, most users start encountering problems when their store
approaches 1GB. If you message store is really 8GB, I'm surprised that OE
even opens!

I have to correct to 6,1 GB.

I assume it will grow by 1 GB per year.

There are problems special at search
When I try to find an email and click it on the
found email list, I get very often a "Not enough memory" message

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Done

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

Oh, I empty only year old messages because of the problem of
false positives.

So it's now 490 MB

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

You are using an out dated version of OE.

How can you possibly have 373 dbx files when you Inbox*year* files account
for most of the Store Folder?
If you also have Sent Items*year*, then at most you would have 30 dbx files.
Do you have some dbx files with a number, (x)?

If you don't do a compaction, then you have space in dbx files that was
deleted or moved messages.
When you backup, you are backing up 'space'.

Do you have some dbx files with a number, (x)?

There are a log of folders like

news-NAME.dbx
software-NAME.dbx

and some newsgroup folders

If you don't do a compaction, then you have space in dbx files that was

This can only happen to the inbox, where I move files away,
all other only receive new messages
