I have a problem with Outlook express. It happened just after I tried to get
it to work with Gmail POP3 using their utility . There is a manual option too . However now it shows the splash screen and there is an error saying that it cannot start because it could not start the "Internet Account manager" then there is another saying MSOE.dll (I think) could not initialize. I have solved this by creating a new user account. BUT here IE6 starts misbehaving . Some links get activated but an equal number dont. For example in Yahoo Mail the initial screen opens up, but when I try to go to the Inbox nothing happens. Many impossible problems of mine have got solved here so I hoping this one will get a solution too. The above problem has been around for at least 1 month. I tried a reinstall of Win98 but that does not complete. -- Anil Bhattacharji, Meerut,India -- Anil Bhattacharji, Meerut,India |

Start by moving Folders.dbx to an empty Windows folder (with OE closed). Note: the DBX files are hidden in Win2K, WinXP and Win2K3. You will lose your folder hierarchy and the lists of newsgroups on the news servers, but it might get you into OE. If that doesn't do it then move all of the DBX files to the same folder as Folders.dbx (again with OE closed). You should now get into OE. Try importing the messages from the folder you moved the DBX files to. If you can't, you can use this tool to extract the messages: DBXtract ($5): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ Note: It can take a long time (days with really large folders). The messages can then be dragged from the Windows folder back into a folder in an open instance of OE. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup. That was fast . I just posted it.
-- It seems those very SAME dbx files ARE being opened under another identity which I created as advised . I am using the Outlook express right now for this news group but under a different identity . I actually delete the folders to see what would happen . I restored them from the recycled bin . But exactly the same error appears. The files you mention maybe used under the different identity too. |

Unless you have jumped through a few hoops, a different identity does not use the same files, but different files by the same name bt in a different location. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup.
