I shall be glad to know how to capture the URL of a newsgroup message that
can be clicked (within OE) and be taken to the message directly. OE should open this in a separate window, AFAICT. Thanks in anticipation. Avatar |

Avatar Well what I do is reply to a post then copy/paste the Message ID, for your message The results can be patchy because of server time retention of messages? You could bookmark the following link, where you can search for the message, and C/P that location? http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en -- Regards Steve. MS-MVP. OE. [DTS] |

You can't. The closest thing you can do is use the Watch/Ignore function.
If they're not already there, put the "spectacles" in the Column Bar. Right click on the Column BarColumnsAdd the spectacles in a column next to the subject header. Now, Go to: ViewSort byWatch / Ignore and Sort descending. When you want to "watch" a message, click next to the message under the spectacles. This will keep the message at the top of the list, and the newsgroup name will change from black to red when there is a reply. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Avatar" wrote in message ... Thanks for the helpful response.
I tried the reply function and it worked perfectly well in deriving the URL as you said. I just saved the message in the Drafts folder and not actually send it off! After copying the URL, I just deleted the message from there! I shall try the Google way sometime later. Regards and thanks again. Avatar " mac" wrote in message ... "Avatar" wrote in message ... Thanks for the response.
Actually I was able to find a way. Thanks to 'mac' who pointed the way to go! Here is the URL for the message you posted, for example: Regards. Avatar "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... You can't. Avatar Hi there, I am pleased it worked for you, just a couple of points, no need to save the message or do anything else with it, just take the message source from the reply and close it. I have no doubt that Bruce misread your message! Thanks for the feedback. -- Regards Steve. MS-MVP. OE. [DTS] |

That will only work if the person receiving the link has msnews as the
default newsserver. The way OE does it is as follows: news:// newsservername /messageId without the spaces. If you leave off the newsserver name, then it uses the default newsserver the recipient has set. steve "Avatar" wrote in message ... Thanks for the response. Actually I was able to find a way.
