RunAway msmsgs.exe?
System assembled in August 2006. Mobo: ASROCK K8 Upgrade 1689 2800; CPU: AMD
Athlon/Sempron 64 2800; OS: WinXP Pro (up to date) In mid-December I began finding that my system was running at 98+ per cent after log on (system is up 24/7). Only a reboot would clear the problem. Task manager indicated that Symantec's NAV ccapp.exe was usually the culprit; msmsgs.exe was sometimes indicated. I spent much of last week running a malware audit suggested by an MVP in the security newsgroup. His analysis is that my system is about the cleanest he has seen in a long time: no malware issues. I then spent much of a day with Symantec techs who appeared to have addressed the issue of ccapp.exe by cleaning the internet cache via a safe boot & CMD commands. Two days later and every then morning & now afternoon since, however, msmsgs.exe grabs all the resources. I do not use Messenger. (In fact I'd be happy to rid my system of Messenger if it does not do something evil to some other sub-system. I cannot seem to find a list of everything msmsgs.exe affects.) I have had a few problems with OE 6 (see previous posts) which are not completely addressed yet. What to do? |

Disable email scanning as it serves no useful purpose and is the most likely

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. The Knowledge base docs I read indicated that msmsgs also affected OE6
operations. True? How? Which group handles messenger? "PA Bear" wrote: What does this have to do with Outlook Express, please?
