I had to reinstall my OS (win2k pro) recently. I still have all my news dbx
files from before. I was able to change my main identity's folder setting to see the folder where those files were. When I did that it blew away the news dbx files and kept the mail message dbx file. The mail ones show up in the list of folders on the left in OE but the news is all gone. Fortunately I still have a backup of all the news dbx files but have no idea how to get them back into action in my OE6 app. I have dozens of them and do NOT want to have to figure out how to get them all back by setting up each group all over again. Plus which I'd lose all my "read" or "not read" settings on the various messages. Thanks in advance, Keith |

Just restore the entire folder that contained your OE message store but to a temp folder. Then use OE's File - Import to point to that alternate message store location. The messages will get imported. What won't get imported are the account definitions. If you look under the Tools - Accounts menu, notice the Import and Export buttons. You pick an account and then export it to an .iaf file which you can later use to import into a separate instance of OE (the new one). The account definitions are stored in the registry, not in a file so your backups won't have any info on them. If you didn't export the account definitions to later have them available for import, you'll have to recreate those accounts and then do the message import. |

It is hard to do a clone backup after 'I had to reinstall my OS'.
