Default How Can E-Mails Be Permanently Deleted??

Hello!

I have been told that whenever an Outlook Express user (using any version),
deletes an e-mail, it really ISN'T deleted ... but is actually stored
totally intact somewhere on the hard drive.

Is there a way to "wipe" (for lack of a better term), or permanently delete
my unwanted e-mails?? ... maybe even some type of 3rd party "Burn-Bag"
software specifically for OE??

Thanks!

DF

When you delete messages, they are only marked for deletion and can be
recoverable until you compact your folders, or they are overwritten. Even
then, there are tools that can read fragments of the hard drive and in many
cases recover some or parts of messages.

With the tools that the DHS & FBI etc. have, the only way to be 100% sure is
to remove the HD and put it in a furnace until it is a blob of metal.

See Bruce's reply.

The issue is not unique to OE. It applies to most programs, including
other mail programs, word processors, spreadsheets, databases, etc.
