Everytime i click a link in O/E email, it opens a 'new' browser window?

Something strange has happened to my Outlook Express/Explorer (i don't know which) As of yesterday - everytime i click a link in O/E email it opens a new browser window (instead of using an existing window)???? In many years of use it has never behaved this way before Any ideas??
