I need some help. Have been using Hotmail Popper for years to download 2
hotmail accounts into OE6 for some time. Suddenly I am prompted for my password for one of these accounts. When I enter the password I can download my mail, no problem. Have read instructions for editing the registry to correct similiar situations but find them kind of scary. Is there another way to fix this? Would establishing a Restore Point before editing the registry establish a backup to the registry? Thanks so much for your advise. |

Assuming you recently installed IE7...
Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log on to a HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer version 7.0: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) zixca wrote: I need some help. PA Bear,
Thank you for your fast response. I am indeed running IE7, XPHome, SP2. I downloaded and installed WindowsXP-KB904942-v2-x86-ENU.exe but am still getting the request for password box for one of these Hotmail accounts. Any other suggestions? Much appreciated. Please post any error messages in their entirety.
IE Tools Internet Options Privacy Sites type in hotmail.com (and) live.com then Allow cookies for each domain, in turn. If you weren't accessing the account in OE *without* using Hotmail Popper, you may be out of luck now. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) zixca wrote: PA Bear, Thank you for your fast response. I had made those changes in the Options, Privacy, Sites for Hotmail.com,
Live.com, Passport.com, MSN.com a few days ago as I had read that suggestion on the boards. These are old (several years) Hotmail accounts that had been no problem until I installed IE7. Really not getting any 'error messages' just the box that requests my password for that one Hotmail account. The password is there in the form of black dots.... so I click on OK and it proceeds to download the mail. Also I have tried shutting of my NAV Email scanning and that seems to help. Are you sure that all attachments & e-mails are scanned even though that is turned off? Thanks again. "PA Bear" wrote: Please post any error messages in their entirety. Attempts to open an email and/or included attachments are still processed by NAV Autoprotect.

Popper, you may be out of luck now. Even if email scanning were enabled, it wouldn't scan incoming/outgoing Hotmail messages. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) zixca wrote: I had made those changes in the Options, Privacy, Sites for Hotmail.com, Live.com, Passport.com, MSN.com a few days ago as I had read that suggestion on the boards.
