Default Recovering OE from another drive

I recently bought a new computer and need to restore the saved mail and
address book from the old system. I have access to the old hard drive via a
USB external connection but I can't boot from it to run the proper backup
tool. Is there any way to simply copy files from the old drive and overwrite
the ones on the new drive to restore the old installation? They should be
very close in versions since they were created by the same install CD.

Please help, I don't want to lose the old stuff. Thanks.

Dave

Default Recovering OE from another drive

Hello,

For outlook express, the mails are stored in this folder (and in your
external drive) (Replace username with the username of the account):

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{420AED9C-9710-42CF-BDF4-6ED03AC7F816}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

Address book is located in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Simply copy the files FROM the external drive TO your same location in the
new drive.

See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

Search for *.dbx (hidden) on the old drive. Then copy the entire directory
to the new drive. Then in OE go to File | Import | Messages and point to
that directory.

The address book is a wab file, so search for *.wab and then use File |
Import | Addressbook and point to it.
